Maison de Van Gogh
This site, an historic monument, is now the only house where Van Gogh lived that has been preserved in its original condition. The soul of the painter still vibrates in the attic of the Auberge Ravoux and, in room No. 5, the glory of Van Gogh gives way to an atmosphere of intimacy.
A place of memories, the home of Van Gogh is also a residence. Today, as in 1890, the dining room welcomes guests from around the world in the warm authentic atmosphere of café artists of the past.
Vincent Van Gogh lived only 70 days in Auvers sur Oise. This short stay was extraordinarily prolific as this picturesque site, its inhabitants and its surroundings inspired him to paint more than 70 works, which are now a reminder of the streets of the village.
The Board of Van Gogh
On 20 May 1890, Vincent Van Gogh took a room for 3.50 Francs a day at the Auberge Ravoux. It was a room under the roof in a small 7 sq m attic, illuminated by a single skylight where the artist brought his paintings to dry, stacking them under his bed.
On 28 and 29 July 1890, Theo Van Gogh was present at the last moments of his brother Vincent on the second floor of the hostel. Having become ”the Chamber of Suicide”, Room No. 5 has never been rented since.
Maison de Van Gogh is located some 30 km from Charles de Gaulle and Le Bourget airport.
